Flavors of the World Food Truck - UCSD

February 26, 2015; Naperville, Ill.—Carlin Manufacturing and Kitchens To Go, leading providers of mobile and modular temporary kitchen production and ancillary support facilities, proudly announces it has delivered a state of the art mobile unit to the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).  UCSD is a highly progressive campus relative to the caliber and vast array of Dining Services offerings.  As such, and to accommodate and support a recent surge in the student body population, the Dining Services team was interested in incorporating a 2nd food truck to their foodservice venues on campus.

The 20’ Carlin mobile kitchen unit, aptly named “Flavors of the World,” will feature a rotating menu of international cuisine, specifically focusing on unique, micro-regional offerings.  With students’ increased exposure, understanding and expectations relative to authenticity of global fare, this truck will enable UCSD Dining Services to accommodate their student population’s desire for accessibility to these types of menu offerings, on campus and throughout the surrounding community.

In support of UCSD’s plans for the mobile unit, several elements were incorporated into the design to ensure it would be as efficient, interactive and enjoyable as possible, both for the students, faculty and staff customers, as well as for the team members operating the unit.  Key components include a raised roof along with sky lights, which provide a more spacious and illuminated interior, as well as a distinct chroming and powder coating package enhancing the overall aesthetic.  A sound system with exterior speakers and PA system will minimize the risk of customers missing or picking up incorrect orders, while also enabling the unit operator to project music complementary to the food being prepared.

The UCSD Dining Services Team has communicated they are extremely pleased with quality of their new mobile unit and are confident students, faculty, staff and visitors to campus will feel the same.

Ultimately, the team elected to partner with Carlin Manufacturing as a result of the meticulous care, attention to detail, design expertise and overall value they knew would be integrated into the unit and provided.  Meticulous care was taken throughout the design and fabrication process in an effort to ensure every detail enhanced the flexibility, quality and overall value integrated into the unit.
